About Compressors
Every page in this section opens the same image compressor, because compression is one job with one pair of levers: how much quality you are willing to lose, and how many pixels you actually need.
The second lever is the one people forget. A photo straight off a camera might be 4000 pixels wide, and a page that displays it at 800 is carrying three quarters of that file for nothing. Resizing before compressing usually beats any quality setting.
Compression runs in your browser on up to twenty images at once, with a before and after size for each, and a draggable comparison slider on a single image so you can see what a quality setting actually costs.
Which One Should You Use?
A photo for a web page
Start from the web optimized preset: 80 percent quality with a cap of 1920 pixels wide, which is enough for a full-width image on a high-density screen.
A file that has to fit a size limit
Work it manually. There is no target-size box, so lower the quality, read the output size, and adjust. Two passes normally gets you there.
An image with transparency
Choose PNG or WebP. JPEG has no transparency and flattens it onto white, and PNG ignores the quality slider because it is lossless.
