About Search Tools

Two lookups sit in this section and both query a live source, because there is nothing useful to search locally: a stock photo library and the public package registry.

The package explorer is aimed at the moment before you add a dependency. It reports the bundle size, which is the number that shows up in your users' download, and hands you a ready-made CDN link when you want to try something in a single HTML file rather than installing it.

The photo search returns free high-resolution images with a direct download, which covers the common case of needing a placeholder or a header image without opening an account somewhere first.

Which One Should You Use?

Sizing up a dependency

Use the package explorer. Search, compare the size of two candidates, and decide before the install rather than after.

Trying a library without installing it

The package explorer generates a CDN link, which is the fastest way to drop a library into a single HTML file and find out whether it does what you need.

Finding an image

Use the stock photo search and download at the resolution you need. Check the licence terms at the source before using anything commercially.

Common Questions

Do these searches run offline?

No. Both query a live source, so results are current but a lookup needs a connection. Nothing about your query is stored here.

Why does bundle size matter more than package size?

A published package includes tests, docs and source maps that never reach a browser. The bundle size is the part that does, which is the figure worth comparing between two candidates.

Can I search this site's own tools from here?

Not from this section, which is for looking things up in outside sources. Use the search box in the tool directory instead, which matches on what a tool does as well as on its name.
