What is PDF Metadata Editor?

View and edit the metadata fields embedded inside any PDF: title, author, subject, keywords, creator, and producer.

Optionally strip the creation and modification timestamps to zero them out before sharing a document that would otherwise leak information about when you authored it. The tool loads your PDF with pdf-lib in your browser, displays the current values, lets you change them in plain text fields, and saves a new PDF with the updated metadata. The original file is never uploaded anywhere - all processing happens locally. Useful for removing your author name before sharing a PDF, changing the title so it reads correctly in Google search results and bookmarks, stripping the creation date for basic privacy housekeeping, fixing wrong author attribution on a downloaded form, standardizing titles across a batch of files you generated programmatically, or replacing the default producer string with your own brand name on outgoing deliverables.

What fields can I edit?

Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator (the app that made the file), and Producer (the library that wrote it). You can also strip the creation and modification dates so they no longer leak when the document was authored.

Will editing the metadata change my PDF's content?

No. Page content, layout, fonts, and images are untouched. Only the metadata fields stored in the document's information dictionary change.

Does this remove ALL traces of the original author?

It removes the user-visible metadata, but PDFs can carry additional traces (XMP metadata, embedded form data, comments, attachments) depending on how they were created. For high-stakes sanitization, use a PDF sanitizer that walks every object. For everyday 'I don't want my Word username on this file' use cases, this tool is sufficient.

Why does the Producer field change after I save?

Re-saving a PDF stamps a default Producer string. If you want a different value, such as your company name, type it into the Producer field before saving and it will be used instead.

How do I change the title that shows in Google or my browser tab?

The Title metadata field is what search engines, browser tabs, and bookmarks display, which is often not the same as the filename. Edit the Title field, save, and the new title travels with the document everywhere it is opened or indexed.

Does my PDF get uploaded when I edit metadata?

No. The file is loaded, edited, and re-saved entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, so removing your name or other identifying details before sharing happens privately on your own device.
