About Resizers
One resizer sits behind these pages, with three ways to say what you want: exact width and height, a percentage of the original, or a preset for a size people ask for repeatedly.
The aspect lock is the setting to watch. On, it recalculates the other dimension so the picture is not distorted, which means you cannot hit an arbitrary width and height at once. Off, you can, and a source of the wrong shape will stretch. Cropping first is usually the answer.
Output is PNG, JPEG or WebP with a quality slider for the two lossy formats, and the whole resize runs in your browser with the before and after file sizes shown side by side.
Which One Should You Use?
Hitting an exact size
Use dimensions mode. Turn the aspect lock off only when you have already cropped the image to the right shape, otherwise it will stretch.
Making a file smaller in general
Use percentage mode. Fifty percent quarters the pixel count, which usually matters more to the file size than any quality setting.
A common target size
Use a preset. There are social sizes, icon sizes from 16 up to 256 pixels, and wallpaper sizes up to 4K.
