What This Tool Does
Set how many names you want, up to 500 at a time, and choose whether each row is a full name, a first name only or a last name only. Gender can be left open or restricted, and a regional setting shifts the pool towards American, British, European, Asian, Latin American, African or Middle Eastern names.
The name lists are small and fixed. There are 45 male first names, 45 female first names and 40 surnames in the general pool, and twenty of each per region. That is plenty for seeding a table or filling a mockup, and not enough to pretend it is a census.
No duplicates switches to unique generation, which starts to matter as soon as you ask for a lot of rows. Copy one name, copy the whole list, or export as JSON or CSV with the first and last name in separate fields.
Limits Worth Knowing
- Unique mode is bounded by the pool. Last names only, restricted to one region, tops out at twenty distinct results however many you ask for.
- When the request exceeds what the pool can supply uniquely, the tool says so instead of quietly repeating itself.
- Every name is equally likely. There is no frequency weighting, so the output is not a realistic distribution of real-world names.
- There are no middle names, titles, usernames, email addresses or dates of birth. This generates names and nothing else.
- The regional groupings are coarse labels over a single list each, not a survey of the naming traditions inside them.
