What is a hex dump?

A hex dump displays file contents as hexadecimal byte values alongside their ASCII text representation. Each row shows the offset address, 16 hex byte values, and the printable ASCII characters. Non-printable characters are shown as dots.

What file types can I view?

Any file type - images, executables, documents, archives, or any binary data. The viewer shows the raw bytes regardless of file format.

What do the colors mean?

Bytes are color-coded: printable ASCII characters in one color, control characters in another, null bytes highlighted, and high bytes (128-255) in a different color for quick visual identification.

Is there a file size limit?

The viewer handles files up to approximately 10MB in the browser. Larger files may cause performance issues depending on your device.

How do I check a file's magic bytes or header?

Drop the file in and look at the first few bytes at offset 0. Many formats start with a signature, for example PNG files begin with 89 50 4E 47 and PDF files begin with 25 50 44 46. The ASCII column next to the hex makes these signatures easy to read.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read directly in your browser and the bytes never leave your device, which makes the viewer safe for inspecting private or sensitive files.
