What This Tool Does

Screenshots usually need the opposite of a preset: an arbitrary region cut exactly where the interesting part ends. Leave the ratio on Free and the selection resizes in both directions independently, so you can trim a dialog, a chart or one column of a table out of a full-screen capture.

Rotate and flip sit on the same toolbar, in quarter turns, which covers a screenshot taken on a phone that arrives on its side. The crop box rotates along with the image rather than being reset.

The panel under the preview reports the original dimensions, the pixel size of the area you have selected, and the effective ratio, which is useful when you are cutting something to fit a fixed slot in a document or a slide.

Limits Worth Knowing

A screenshot often contains more than you meant to share: a browser tab title, a name in a sidebar, a notification. Crop it before sending it rather than after.
Free-form is the behavior of the Free option. Presets from 1:1 through 16:9 and 9:16 are there for when you do need a fixed ratio.
Rotation is limited to quarter turns. There is no arbitrary angle and no straightening tool.
Export is PNG or JPEG. PNG is the better choice for a screenshot, because text stays sharp instead of picking up compression artifacts.
The file never leaves your browser, which is the point when the capture has something on it you would rather not upload.

Common Questions

PNG or JPEG for a screenshot?

PNG. Screenshots are mostly flat color and sharp text, which is exactly what JPEG compression handles worst.

Can I blur something out?

No, this crops only. If something sensitive sits in the middle of the region you need, crop around it or edit it elsewhere.

Is there a limit on image size?

Files up to a hundred megabytes are accepted, which is far beyond any normal screenshot.
