MacBook Pro 14 inch screen size: 3024 by 1964
3024 by 1964 is the device pixel resolution of the 14 inch panel. It reduces to 756:491, about 1.54:1, which is taller than the 16:10 the main display area actually uses.

In detail
The interesting number here is the height. A 16:10 panel 3024 pixels wide would be 1890 tall; this one is 1964, exactly 74 pixels more. That extra strip is the band at the top of the display that runs either side of the camera housing, and it is why the ratio comes out at an unfamiliar 756:491 rather than a clean 8:5.
Split the panel and both halves make sense. The 3024 by 1890 region below the strip is exactly 16:10, the ratio laptops of this class have used for years, and the strip above it is menu bar territory rather than content. A full screen application sees the 16:10 rectangle; a screenshot of the whole display sees all 1964 rows.
At the two times scale factor the layout size is 1512 by 982. Both divide exactly, and 1512 is the figure to design against for anything that has to line up with the operating system's own layout, since that is the number the window manager works in.
For anyone producing hero imagery of a laptop screen, the practical consequence is that a 16:9 mockup does not fit. 16:9 at 3024 wide is 1701 tall, so an image built for a widescreen display leaves a wide band unfilled on a 16:10 panel and a wider one on the full 1964 pixel frame.

16:10 at 3024 wide -> 3024 x 1890
actual panel -> 3024 x 1964
difference -> 74 pixels, the strip beside the camera housing3024 / 1701 = 1.7778 // 16:9
3024 / 1890 = 1.6 // 16:10
3024 / 1964 = 1.5397 // 756:491, the full panelThings that catch people out
- A 16:9 screenshot does not fill this panel. Building a mockup at 16:9 and stretching it distorts every interface element in the image.
- The full panel height includes a strip that is never application content, so a full screen app capture and a whole display capture are different shapes.
- 756:491 is a valid CSS ratio and an unreadable one. Prefer the explicit pixel dimensions in a layout that has to match exactly.
